Judgment Day wins peabody? Sifting through the coincidences

April 3, 2008 – 12:25 am by William Wallace

So Panda’s Thumb is pleased that Judgement Day won a Peabody award. Judgement day is a documentary about the Kitzmiller vs. Dover Area School District court case.

Let’s rain on the parade, and juxtapose certain facts (some of which are just coincidences).

  • The film was produced by Vulcan Productions.[1]
  • Vulcan Productions was founded by and is chaired by Paul Allen.[2]
  • Paul Allen is a billionaire founder of Microsoft, and owns the monster yacht Octopus, complete with doomsday submarine capable of holding eight people submersed for two weeks.[3]
  • PZ Myers has an octopus on his hat in Age of the Darwinian Machine.[4]
  • Vulcan Productions also won a Peabody in 2004 for Black sky: The Race for Space a film that incestuously documents Paul Allen’s effort to create the first privately-funded spacecraft.[5]
  • Expelled is disqualified from winning a peabody as it is set for release in movie theaters, and “programs produced and intended for general theatrical motion picture release are not eligible for a Peabody Award”.[6]
  • Microsoft announced a Peabody smartphone in 2005.[7]
  • Another spectacularly bad program, The Office won a Peabody award in 2006.[8]

Well, that’s all for now.

  2. Very funny. By the way there’s a question for you at Panda’s Thumb regarding your understanding of a post at Uncommon Descent. A response would be appreciated.

  3. Ellazimm, thanks. I think you mean this comment. Unfortunately, PvM is not the most trustworthy source and I have not yet had a chance to check into his or her claims and consider his or her reasoning.

  5. How is the Office connected with all of this, LOL?

  6. Zoltan, I don’t know, but it won a Peabody.

Example of another bad show winning a Peabody?

    Microsoft Office?

    I think the former.

  7. You don’t like the Office? US or UK version?

  8. Coincidentally, I just watched part of another episode last night (U.S. version) while on the treadmill. The Office was pure torture, so I had to change the channel and watch the end of Coffy and the beginning of Foxy Brown staring Pamela Grier instead.

    Much better.

    The Office is just grating.
